Cycling Watch

A cycling watch generally has the diversity to present your speed, distance and heart rate while cycling and most models can be used as a regular heart rate monitor - which is a real bonus. Two uses from one watch. While a bike watch may have a smaller screen display than a cycling computer it is the versatility that makes them so useful.

The main problem with a bike computer is that it is only useful to you when you are on your bike and many individuals like to do other types of workout routines so, for them a biking watch can be an ideal solution.

cycling watch

A bike watch, like the Polar CS300 and the Garmin 310XT, are best used with handlebar watch mounts when cycling. This helps keep you safe and keeps your hands on the bars.

The Polar CS300 comes with a speed sensor and a bike mount but you can easily add a cadence sensor to this device. This bike watch measures heart rate, speed, distance, and even pedal cadence plus it makes a great heart rate monitor for the gym as well.

The Garmin 310XT is a GPS watch that actual has more features than a bike computer does. The Forerunner 310XT is waterproof and offers up watts output in addition to speed, distance, cadence and heart rate making it the ultimate triathlon weapon.

The new touch screen GPS, the Garmin Forerunner 610, is also a stellar watch as is the Garmin Forerunner 410. Both of these cycling watches will pair with cadence sensors and offer elevations and post ride maps with great detail.

The new Garmin Forerunner 910XT is the best cycling watch on the planet in our opinion because not only does it contain all of the features of the Garmin 310XT, it also brings a barometric altimeter to the table for more accurate on board elevation readings.

If you are a cyclist who likes to cross-train these types of devices make lots of sense. Use it as a running watch or a heart rate monitor at the gym. A cycling-specific watch is a tool that is useful for multiple activities all packaged in to one device.

Polar, Garmin and Suunto are the companies to look at when you are considering a cycling-specific watch to use as a bike computer. All three companies have had years of experience with athletes and understand the kinds of features they are looking for.

At the Heart Rate Watch Company we are constantly testing products. A cycling watch like the Polar CS300, the Garmin 310XT, and the Garmin Forerunner 610 or 410 can offer you up much of the same data you get from your bike computer.
