The Polar FT7 is a very popular heart rate monitor because it does so many things well. For starters, FT7
gives you visual heart rate displays and messages - when you are in your fat burning zone it tells you and, when you are in your
aerobic zones it tells you, with both visual and audible alerts.
Unless you want to measure speed and distance, the FT7 does just about everything you could want for a heart rate watch
that is focused on heart rate training.
Why You Want A Polar FT7 Features
One of the really cool Polar features we love is the Heart Touch button-free operation. To change screens when you are outside
with gloves on, or if you have both hands gripping the rails of a Tread Climber, just move the watch close to the chest transmitter
and presto, the screen changes.
Polar FT7 offers up calories burned, allows you to manually set target zones, and will display just time of day and
date if you want it to. It also features a key lock which helps avoid unintended button presses and Polar offers some great
training videos on their website to show you how to use the watch correctly, which beats reading a tech manual hands down.
The Energy Pointer feature is our favorite, however, because it tells you during a training session if the primary effect of
your training is fat burning or fitness improvement and it places a dividing line between these two categories on a graph. A
heart symbol on the graph shows you exactly where your heart rate is relative to these zones.
Polar FT7 Works Swimming - No Other Heart Rate Monitors Do
The FT7 can also be used in a swimming pool to get heart rate because Polar uses a 5 mHZ transmission signal, while
nearly all other heart rate monitors use 2.4 kHZ transmission, making Polar the only choice for swimmers.
You definitely want to buy the optional Polar Flowlink device with the Polar FT7 so you can download all of your training
sessions to Polar personal trainer software, which is a free online software for Polar owners. If you are looking for a great
heart rate monitor to help you improve your fitness, or lose a few extra pounds, then look no further.
The user replaceable batteries on both the watch and the chest strap makes this watch a big improvement over older Polar models.
We also like the fact that it stores 99 training sessions for reference and gives you a nice workout summary.
If you need timing features and stop watches then you'll want to consider the Polar RS series watches. With Polar there are three
distinct series of heart rate monitors - the RS series for running and general fitness, the FT series for gym workouts and
cross-training and the CS series for cycling.
